Theme: self portrait

The final week (yes I know it’s already January 6) of my 2011 52 on Friday project. I’m a bit happy its over but at the same time I will miss “seeing” my group every week through their posts and different perspectives. It was such a fun project that I mostly stuck to. Overall I’m pretty proud of myself for jumping back in after I needed a little break. I have a few other personal photo projects coming this year though, starting later this month.

Last January, the first post was a self portrait. I’m still just as uncomfortable in front of the camera as I was a year ago. I don’t see that changing anytime in the future either. Last years post is here. I remember taking that shot. I nearly forgot it was Friday and I almost skipped out on my first 52 post. I just came back from Sam’s music class that he hated and  I put him down for his nap and had about 15 minutes to take out my pig tails and try to find the right light. I was happy, surprisingly, with how it turned out. This year, I didn’t forget or do this last minute, but I did it a week ago, when I happened to have a minute. That minute is rare these days so I’m getting better at taking advantage. I don’t love them, but I knew no matter how many I took that I’d feel the same. So here I am. One year later. Happy New Year. And thanks for following this past year.

Don’t forget to see Amy  Bowman, Nampa Idaho Photographer and her self portrait this week.

theme: winter

One week left. Really this should be the last week, but in January we started the second friday. Lucky you, you have one more week to see what I come up with! I debated continuing this project next year, but I don’t want it to become a chore for me. Something I feel I have to do rather than want to do. I’ll post plenty of random things in 2012 for you to enjoy, don’t you worry ;)

So. Winter. It doesn’t feel like winter and it’s almost January. No snow yet. It’s getting colder, but it still doesn’t feel like winter. There is lots of hot chocolate (my favorite pregnant indulgence). Lots of scarf wearing. Lots of bundling up with blankets. But it still doesn’t seem like winter without snow. It will come, I’m sure of that as it always does. And I’ll wait patiently for there to be enough snow to sled with Sam for the first time. To teach him to throw snowballs in the air and watch Daisy try to eat them, confused as they crumble in her mouth. Winter is a time for me to slow down and replenish my energy. Reevaluate my goals. And recharge everything. I’m excited for the changes that I believe are coming this spring, personally and professionally. But for now, I’m enjoying the slow, cold days while I sit and wait for flakes.

Theme: Memories

Memories are what photographs create and capture, so this theme is way open this week! I know Sam is too young to remember one day this time when there were just 3 of us in our family. I too want to remember this time when we were partners in crime. Things will change in the next year. And I’m very ready for the changes that are to come, but I’m going to try to remember this time forever.

Next up is the very talented Jobrina Hofleit, Goodyear, AZ Photographer.
